ABOUT THE ACTIVE SUNSCREEN INGREDIENTS:

Both are FDA Classified Category 1 Skin Protectants.

OCTINOXATE (7.5%) is the most widely used UVB (sun burning ray) blocking agent in the skin care industry. Though it does not filter UVA (skin aging rays), it has a "free-radical protection factor" that prevents UV light induced DNA alterations and boosts the product's SPF. A highly efficient ultraviolet shield, Octinoxate, provides protection from contributors to skin cancer, aging and photo damage, including melasma and hyperpigmentation.

ZINC OXIDE (9.0%) is a micronized oxide that provides physical sunscreen protection. It is the broadest spectrum UVA and UVB reflector that is approved for use as a sunscreen by the FDA, and is completely photostable. Zinc Oxide sits on the surface of the skin and is not absorbed. Therefore, it is nonirritating and nonallergenic. Its fine particles also have deodorizing and antibacterial properties making it an ideal choice for those with sensitive and acne prone skin.

I will describe the beneficial characteristics of the OCCLUSIVE ingredients cumulatively.
(All are listed below). Most are silicone based and create a light, almost powdery finish. They provide the skin with a fresh, clean feeling of velvety softness, and also address inflammation. They are the ingredients primarily responsible for the "primer" benefits of this product.

HYALURONIC ACID is a glycosaminoglycan that consists of small molecules allowing it to reach deep down into the dermis. By holding up to 1,000 times its own weight in water, it provides the hydrating, nutrient-transporting framework necessary for supporting the structure of the skin. This hydration increases the skin's volume and density as it temporarily stabilizes the inter-cellular skin matrix - the glue that holds your face together.

POLYISOBUTENE works as an emollient moisturizer and prevents water loss.

PRO-VITAMIN B and VITAMIN E provide cell support as antioxidants and skin strengthening conditioners.

LACTIC ACID is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid derived from milk. By accelerating the sloughing process of the skin and limiting bacterial growth, absorption and longevity of beneficial ingredients are greatly increased. Contributors to acne and sensitivity are lessened.

SURFACTANT ingredients and preservatives contained in this product are now popular replacements for those that are more controversial - such as Paraben. (All are listed below).
